The Family Birth Center at the Women’s Center of Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama developed a process for pre-admission.  This was undertaken to improve patient, employee, and physician satisfaction with the admission process for patients undergoing hospital admission for scheduled labor induction or scheduled cesarean birth.  A registered nurse from the Family Birth Center staffs the pre-admission clinic.  These clinic visits usually take place within two calendar days of the scheduled admission to the hospital.  At the time of the pre-admission visit the in-patient record is initiated with all pertinent consent forms signed, lab test performed, and discharge planning and education initiated.
