Obesity rates are rising at an exceedingly fast rate in the Untied States. Concurrently, there is a proportional increase in women presenting for prenatal care who have a body mass index (BMI) that is over the 40, which is the definition of morbid obesity.  Health care facilities that deliver women with high BMI’s are faced with many challenges in terms of providing prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum nursing care for this cohort of women. Additionally, planning for a safe delivery with the optimal goal of achieving a healthy outcome for both mother and baby is the priority. This poster demonstrates how one Level III facility which is located in the mid-Atlantic region utilized a multidisciplinary team approach in developing an intrapartum / postpartum plan of care for the special delivery of a woman who presented for prenatal care with a BMI that was over 100.
