The Poster being submitted is based upon an Innovative demonstration Project at University Community Hospital, Tampa,Florida.

It has wide systems applicability in a variety of settings.

The goals of the project are three fold:

  • To improve patient-family satisfaction
  • To positively impact retention & recruitment of qualified staff
  • To create a positive impact on the organization's financial performance by decreasing employee absences

The objectives of this presentation is to provide participants of both an overview of the program and explore examples of carrative moments that apply to nursing practice for self & others.

Dr. Jean Watson's Caring Theory Model will be outlined as an avenue to revitalize nursing and move nurses from the "job" to the "calling" nursing practice.

Through the use of practical and poignant examples, the viewer will be able to see how the Human Caring Model can serve as a roadmap for professional practice & professional growth.

Review of the literature demonstrates that a caring culture can improve patient-staff satisfaction and is the pathway that leads to the attainment of organizational goals.

Graphs will provde the participant with surveys results which track progress toward attainment of goals.

For the Nurse Leader or manager, it will provide an additionlal path for professional nursing staff and an avenue to change staff commitment to patients.

The goal of this poster is to provde participants "food for thought". This project will define Nursing Culture at UCH Hospitals as we continue the Magnet recognition process.
