Implementing Nursing Evidence Based Practice:The Golden Road to Success

Vassar Brothers Medical Center established a Nursing Evidence Based Practice (EBP) council in September 2006. The goal of the council was to empower nurses to become change agents by developing and implementing best practice in nursing.

The Iowa Model was chosen as a framework to direct nurses to implement EBP.

Change champions identified opportunities to apply EBP to nursing, and presented their topics to the Nursing EBP council.

Unit based focus groups were formed. Members of the council supported the groups through the process.

To date, in the Maternal Child health department, seven topics have been identified and are at various stages of completion.

EBP has been successfully integrated into the Vassar Brothers Medical Center nursing culture.
