Collaborative practice and tapping into the diverse knowledge and expertise of our Perinatal Diagnostic Center staff are essential for accurate assessment and timely reporting of High Risk obstetrical ultrasound results. Our professional staff consists of ultrasound certified Registered Nurses and Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers/ Technologists under the direction of a Board Certified Perinatologist. A new digital reporting system was implemented in the Holy Cross Hospital’s Perinatal Diagnostic Center in March 2007 to improve the quality, speed, and accuracy of reporting obstetrical sonogram/ testing results to referring obstetricians. With this system obstetrical ultrasound data is transferred immediately to a template report. Electronic graphs and tables are available for comparisons. Human error is decreased, scanning time to report completion reduced with increased patient safety and satisfaction. The RN can document teaching and assessments. The sonographer can document comments and concerns. Because this is a paperless and archived system, costs are reduced because film and film storage fees are minimized. The combination of a qualified staff and state of the art technology enhance optimal care to the women who come to Holy Cross Hospital for care during their pregnancies.
