Biographical Sketch: S. Ananth Karumanchi, MD received his medical degree in 1992 from the University of Madras, India. Dr. Karumanchi completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, and a fellowship in Nephrology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston. MA.  Dr. Karumanchi also underwent training in basic research in the area of angiogenesis for 4 years at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, Boston. He joined the faculty at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 2001 as Attending Physician in the Nephrology division and is currently an Associate Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He also holds a second appointment as a Senior Scientist with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. His current research focuses on the role of angiogenic growth factors and inhibitors in the pathogenesis of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and gestational hypertension. Dr. Karumanchi is the winner of the Preeclampsia Foundation – Hope Award in 2006 and American Society of Hypertension – Young Scholar Award in 2007.
