Biographical Sketch: Michael Policar, MD, MPH, currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, and Medical Director of UCSF Program Support and Evaluation for the Family PACT Program, the family planning and STI program operated by the California State Office of Family Planning.  Between 1999-2005, he was Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of the NorthBay Healthcare System in Fairfield, California, and in the preceding five years, served as Medical Director of the Partnership HealthPlan of California, also based in Fairfield, California. Dr. Policar received his MD degree at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UCLA School of Medicine.  Subsequently he received a Master of Public Health degree in Health Services Management from UCLA School of Public Health.
Dr. Policar is a widely known speaker with particular interest in health delivery systems and women’s health issues, including health screening, menopause, family planning, and female genital tract infections. He has authored a number of chapters in medical textbooks, including the current and past editions of Contraceptive Technology. Dr. Policar is active in a number of professional societies, including the American College of Physician Executives, the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, the North American Menopause Society, and American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. He is an avid gardener and cultivates over 120 varieties of Salvia (sages).
