Biographical Sketch: I grew up in an Air Force family, with one sister. We spent most of my formative years living in Japan, as well as the continental United States. I have traveled to Mexico several times to study the language, culture and the perinatal experience. I am married to a minister and have 3 sons ranging in age from 17 to 21 years old. I began my nursing career later in life, and progressed from patient care assistant to clinical nurse manager completely within maternal child services. I have been involved in lactation support and worked with migrant populations since 2000. I completed by RNC exam and the IBCLC exam in 2006.
I have served as a clinical nursing instructor for Grand Rapids Community College as well as the University of Detroit Mercy Grand Rapids Campus. I have taught breastfeeding classes, been a guest speaker for high school anatomy and physiology classes, and have been a core facilitator for cultural competency training for healthcare workers.
