Biographical Sketch: Sue Gehlsen is the Executive Director of Women's Services for Iowa Health - Des Moines and has served in that position since 1999. She holds a Master's degree from the University of Iowa and a BSN from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota. Prior to her current role, she has held staff nurse, management and leadership positions in Behavioral Health, Women's Health and Health Planning. Her areas of expertise include leadership and staff development, communication and Quality Improvement initiatives.
Currently, Sue is the chairperson of the Iowa AWHONN Section. She was selected as one of Iowa's 100 Great Nurses in 2006 and is a team leader for the IHI Perinatal Safety Initiative at Iowa Health - Des Moines.Sue resides in Ankeny, Iowa with her husband and two youngest daughters, with four older children launched and residing in Minnesota. Her hobbies include outdoor activities, reading and teaching adult education through her church.
