Biographical Sketch: Joan Renaud Smith is a neonatal nurse practitioner with over 22 years experience in a 68-bed level III NICU.  Ms. Smith's areas of research include developmental and family-centered care, infant nutrition and breastfeeding, and neonatal bereavement.  She is the co-editor of an evidence-base practice column in Neonatal Network. She received the 2004 Excellence in Writing Award from Neonatal Network, and is the Program Service Committee Chair of the St. Louis March of Dimes' Chapter. Ms. Smith shares her personal experience as a former NICU parent of 29 week twin boys.  She is an adjunct nursing instructor in the neonatal nurse practitioner program at Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing and Allied Health.  Ms. Smith received her undergraduate degree from Maryville University in St. Louis and her graduate degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
