Biographical Sketch: Dr. Schmidt is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She has over 30 years of pediatric clinical/teaching experience. Her body of research includes studies related to the health of children involving such topics as: breastfeeding in the NICU setting, children’s perceptions of nurses, children’s and mothers’ perceptions of diabetes-related self-care, physical activity and obesity in women across the lifespan, and prenatal blood lead levels. Her expertise includes qualitative, descriptive research involving interviews, surveys, and internet methods. She has developed semi-structured interview guides and surveys to be used for interview, written, and internet responses.
