Biographical Sketch: Dr. Nelson is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is on staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California and serves as Chief, Women's Health Care Programs. These programs include the Women’s Health Care Clinic and the Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the Women’s Health Care Teams for the Coastal County Health Centers in the County of Los Angeles. She is also the Medical Director for the Research Division of the California Family Health Council. Most of Dr. Nelson's research efforts have been in the areas of contraception, menopause and gynecologic infection. She is principal investigator or investigator on several National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH/NICHHD) research grants as well as commercially funded studies. Dr. Nelson has published 115 articles for professional journals, 11 books, 48 chapters and 97 abstracts. She is an author of Contraceptive Technology, an editor for The Female Patient, The Contraceptive Report, and Contraceptive Technology Update, and a special consultant for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
