Unnecessary cesarean deliveries are being performed at an alarming rate without a clear understanding of the risks of major abdominal surgery to mother and fetus. This presentation will examine influences contributing to the increased rate of cesareans in this country, and discuss the clinical risks of cesarean to both mother and fetus, including the long-term reproductive risks to the mother.
