The Case Study's objective is to share, via pictures and stories, a look into Afghanistan Maternal-Child's access to care from the eyes of a deployed Obstetrical Nurse. This third world nation at war with only minimal health care options has one of the highest maternal-intant mortality rates. Many life threatening diseases and birth defects are visually identified with few if any available referrals for correction or continued care. The customs and cultural barriers in Afghanistan are hindrances to access or follow-up. If military medical personnel provide continued involvement in the care and education to this fragile group the result could be lives saved. It will reequire ongoing interventions and building of infrastructure to begin to meet this critical need.
