This session will discuss the use of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) as a tool to both avoid intubation and to facilitate extubation in the newborn. Methods of NIV will be reviewed and the evidence supporting its use will be examined. Strategies for the use of various types of NIV will also be discussed.
