Each year, more than 500,000 women around the world die during pregnancy and childbirth. The majority of these deaths occur in developing nations and are largely preventable. Yet the US ranks 41st in maternal mortality in the world and last among industrialized nations. How can we reduce maternal mortality globally? What can we do to ensure every woman the right to survive pregnancy and childbirth? How can nurses use science and policy to drive change?
