Title: Innovative Treatment of a Rare Anterior Midline Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Melissa Duran, MSN, RN, CRNP , Division of Pediatric General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA

Discipline: Newborn (NB), Advanced Practice (AP)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the anatomic variations of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
  2. Discuss the clinical and radiographic features of a patient with a rare anterior midline congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
  3. Identify evaluation and treatment modalities of a patient with a rare anterior midline congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH).
Submission Description:
A prenatal diagnosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can be devastating to a family expecting a normal, healthy newborn.  However, significant medical advances in the postnatal management of patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) have led to a remarkable decline in infant mortality.  This case presentation will discuss an infant prenatally diagnosed with an extremely rare form of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and the innovative treatment that was responsible for saving her life.
