Title: H7 - Human Milk: The Best Medicine for Preterm Infants

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review the many benefits of human milk for preterm infants.
  2. Discuss ways to improve support for breastfeeding in the NICU.
  3. Describe a Quality Improvement project designed to increase the use of human milk nutrition in the NICU.
Submission Description:
Human milk is the best medicine for premature infants, providing protection from potentially life-threatening diseases, as well as supporting optimal physical growth and neurodevelopment. We will review the many benefits of human milk for preterm infants, discuss ways to improve support for breastfeeding in the NICU, and describe a Quality Improvement project designed to increase the use of human milk nutrition in the NICU, especially for ELBW infants.
