Title: PP2 - Measuring Quality In Perinatal Care

Disciplines: Professional Issues (PI), Childbearing (CB)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the national level process for the NQF (National Quality Forum)and TJC (The Joint Commission) perinatal measure set.
  2. Describe the system level impact of the measures and emerging toolkits on L&D and Newborn units.
  3. Explore how these measures will have an impact on individual frontline clinicians and change care for patients.
Submission Description:
This session will provide an opportunity for three perinatal leaders to discuss the background and publication of national indicators for quality perinatal care, and implications for bedside nursing practice. While childbirth is currently the second most common reason for hospital admission in the United States, consensus on measurement for quality improvement has been an area for opportunity. It is widely viewed that implementation of process and outcome measures will lead to improvements in perinatal care nationally by standardizing the framework for both clinicians and hospitals; and identifying gaps and enhancements in the treatment of mothers and newborns.
