A6 - Delivery Room Resuscitation of the Micropreemie: OB & Neonatal Perspectives
Disciplines: Professional Issues (PI), Newborn Care (NB), Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Describe issues related to medical uncertainty and resuscitation of the ELBW infant.
- Discuss research findings on obstetrical and neonatal staff views on resuscitation of ELBW infants at the gestational ages of 22 to 26 weeks.
- Identify five factors associated with improved prediction in the outcomes of infant risk groups.
Over the last two decades changes in medical care has allowed for the survival of infants that are now considered at the “edge of viability.” But do OB and neonatal staff have the same perspectives on delivery room resuscitation of these micro-preemies? This presentation will look at the confrontations in values with DR decisions regarding the care and resuscitation of these ELBW infants from both the OB and neonatal staff viewpoint.
