Disciplines: Professional Issues (PI), Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Review regulatory guidelines and recommendations for rare events.
- Explore educational-learning methodology and strategies in preparing for perinatal rare events.
- Define “readiness” versus competency in the context of perinatal rare events.
Obstetric nurses are well oriented to care for laboring mothers and newborns. Although the orientation may be thorough, some clinical situations may not be possible to experience due to their rare occurrences. However, nurses must be prepared to perform flawlessly for a positive outcome. The purpose of this presentation is to describe a rare event training program model that results in readiness to provide the most favorable outcomes for the mother and the baby.
