Title: Health Policy Breakfast - Global Newborn and Child Survival

Disciplines: Professional Issues (PI), Newborn Care (N), Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe resources and interventions most effective in improving maternal health and reducing mortality in children around the globe.
  2. Analyze characteristics of aid programs successful in helping children and families help themselves.
  3. Summarize strategies to engage U.S. policymakers on the topic of foreign aid on behalf of children.
Submission Description:
Every year, millions of children -- including 4 million babies in their first month of life -- die in developing countries from largely preventable and treatable causes. Resources for simple, low-cost and essential interventions, such as antibiotics, vaccinations, packages for newborn care, and health worker training can and do save the lives of millions every year. This session will identify programs that are successfully delivering life-saving interventions around the world. It will also provide specific strategies for nurses to engage U.S. policymakers on the topic of foreign aid.
