Title: H5 - Sleepless In Seattle (and Elsewhere): Women and the Need for Quality Sleep

Disciplines: Women’s Health (WH), Advanced Practice (AP)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify ways sleep impacts health and performance.
  2. Discuss sleep deficiency and circadian disruption and their impact on performance.
  3. Define how extended work hours and night shift work hours contribute to sleep deficiency.
Submission Description:
This session examines the importance of quality sleep, with a special focus on shift work and performance. There is evidence suggesting women have greater difficulty adjusting to shift work compared to men, and that sleep problems may be to blame. Poor sleep quality and sleep deficiency can have deleterious effects on the brain, behavior, quality of life and performance. The presenter will also explore potential remedies and areas for further research.
