Title: D6 - The Promise of Angiogenic Markers for the Early Diagnosis of Preeclampsia
Disciplines: Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the clinical manifestations of preeclampsia and their pathophysiologic underpinnings
- Summarize the role of angiogenic growth factors in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia.
- Describe implications for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of preeclampsia.
Imbalance of angiogenic growth factors in the maternal circulation contributes to the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. Measurement of angiogenic markers in the serum/plasma may be particularly useful for the diagnosis and prediction of preterm preeclampsia. Methods aimed at interfering antiangiogenic factors may be a novel therapeutic strategy in severe preterm preeclampsia.
