Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand how patient, provider and system factors impact outcomes and how perinatal nurse-sensitive measures can be used to link nursing practice to outcomes improvement.
  2. Identify how findings from recent nurse staffing research apply to perinatal nurse staffing.
  3. Describe the principles of triage and how they can be best applied to effectively and efficiently triage perinatal populations.
Submission Description:
Nurses in leadership positions and all nurses who wish to contribute to staffing improvements on their units. This summit will increase your understanding of: 1. What principle-based staffing means for your and how it can improve your setting. 2. How current nurse staffing research applies to perinatal patients. 3. In-depth data behind the needs to strengthening nurse staffing in all settings 4. How you can improve staffing through careful tracking and evaluation of patient volume, acuity, procedures, interventions and obstetric and nursing practices. AWHONN will provide examples of how perinatal nurses are improving their care and staffing through using data that address the importance of process. Small group breakout sessions will facilitate strategizing by attendees related to developing acuity tools useful in each perinatal and neonatal area.
