E1 - Management of Category II Fetal Heart Rate Tracings
E1 - Management of Category II Fetal Heart Rate Tracings
Title: E1 - Management of Category II Fetal Heart Rate Tracings
Disciplines: Childbearing (CB)
Learning Objectives:
- Identify fetal heart rate patterns that meet the criteria for Category II designation.
- Describe components of an algorithm for the management of category II fetal heart rate tracings.
- Apply the algorithm to selected fetal heart rate tracings.
In 2008 an NICHD concensus panel proposed a uniform system of terminology in which any FHR pattern is classified as Category I, II or III. Recommendations were then made by ACOG for management of Category I and Category III tracings. Management of Category II tracings, which represent >80% of tracings in labor, remains challenging. This session will describe a newly published algorithm for management of Category II tracings and will apply the algorithm to selected tracings.
