  1. Identify fetal heart rate patterns that meet the criteria for Category II designation.
  2. Describe components of an algorithm for the management of category II fetal heart rate tracings.
  3. Apply the algorithm to selected fetal heart rate tracings.
Submission Description:
In 2008 an NICHD concensus panel proposed a uniform system of terminology in which any FHR pattern is classified as Category I, II or III. Recommendations were then made by ACOG for management of Category I and Category III tracings. Management of Category II tracings, which represent >80% of tracings in labor, remains challenging. This session will describe a newly published algorithm for management of Category II tracings and will apply the algorithm to selected tracings.
