Discipline: Childbearing (CB), Newborn Care (N), Professional Issues (PI)

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss barriers to accurate documentation of newborn resuscitation.
  • Review current guidelines for neonatal resuscitation from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
  • Demonstrate neonatal resuscitation code review.

  • Submission Description:
A newborn code review committee was formed in July 2012. Newborn resuscitation documentation was audited for three months, the current form was found to be a barrier to documentation and care. A search of literature, internet, and area hospitals was performed. Forms found were either equal to, or less comprehensive than the current form. The team decided to create a new form, following American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program guidelines.

The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
