Discipline: Childbearing (CB)

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify the most preventable cause of maternal morbidity and mortality
  • Identify all necessary disciplines for management of massive hemorrhage
  • Analyze the relationship between early identification and treatment of maternal hemorrhage with improved maternal outcomes and reduction in blood transfusions

  • Submission Description:
Hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity worldwide; 90% of hemorrhage related maternal mortality can be prevented through improved quality of care. Recognizing that standardized and coordinated intervention is critical for optimal maternal outcomes, a multidisciplinary team at our 728 bed Magnet hospital developed a Maternal Hemorrhage Plan (MHP) aimed at early identification and rapid treatment of excessive bleeding. This study seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of a MHP on maternal outcomes.
