Submission Description:
This review of the literature examines the incidence of oropharyngeal cancer related to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. A case-study of a 64 year old woman with oral cancer, diagnosed 6 years after her husband was diagnosed with oral cancer, is used as an exemplar. The purpose of this presentation is to inform nurses about HPV related oropharyngeal cancer to enable education of women for early detection, treatment and improved quality of life following diagnosis.

The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
