Terri L Preston, MS, RNC-OB , Women's Center - Labor & Delivery/Mother-Baby, Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK

Discipline: Obstetric (OB), Neonatal (N), Professional Issues (PI)

  • Identify methods for implementing new processes.
  • Identify components of successful new program or processes.

  • Submission Description:
The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the innovative role of a Neonatal Transition Nurse (NTN) to provide a higher level of bedside care at delivery with a goal of preventing mother and newborn separation. The current emphasis on rooming in & family centered care helped to identify the need for minimizing NICU admissions for transition related issues. This need was met through the creation of a neonatal transition nurse role.
