  • Participants will be able to: Describe how inflammation is associated with menopausal symptoms.
  • Participants will be able to: Detail the impact of the Women's Health Initiative on menopausal management and its role in current menopausal care.

  • Submission Description:
In the past decade menopause medicine has emerged as factual, structured, and formal. Yet considerable confusion exists among women and their care providers regarding its biology, its emotional costs, and its economic impact. This presentation will focus upon the role of inflammation as the underlying cause of most menopause symptoms, the biologic challenge that loss of estrogen creates in this process and the role that hormone replacement serves to reduce these symptoms.
