Title: A4 - State Improvements in Newborn Screening Pre-Analytic Processes and Developing Educational Modules to Support Timely Newborn Screening
Disciplines: Neonatal (N), Professional Issues (PI)
Learning Objectives:
Submission Description:
The Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (ACHDNC) recommends that newborn screening (NBS) dried blood spots be collected at 24 – 48 hours of life, and that specimens should be received at the Laboratory within 24 hours of collection. A 2014 nation-wide survey of NBS programs found that many programs struggle to meet these recommendations. We present examples from select states that have made improvements in their pre-analytic newborn screening processes.
