Title: PC8 - Legal Issues in Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify current trends in perinatal and neonatal malpractice and discuss the elements of malpractice
  • List a variety of risk reduction strategies
  • Describe the relationship between documentation and deposition

  • Submission Description:
    This pre-conference will address a variety of medico-legal issues in both perinatal and neonatal nursing. Learn about the legal standard of care, common pitfalls and allegations in perinatal and neonatal malpractice cases and explore risk management solutions for both staff and management. Documentation issues and tips for surviving a deposition will be addressed, along with a discussion of the importance of regular review and critiquing of policies and protocols. Learn to "think like a lawyer" in this informative pre-conference session.
