Title: D6 - A Review of 3 Postpartum Emergencies: Strategies to Escalate Care and Optimize Outcomes

Learning Objectives:
  • Briefly review physiologic changes of pregnancy that affect maternal compensation and highlight how comorbidities like: preeclampsia, diabetes, and obesity, contribute to decompensation during postpartum emergencies.
  • Review how the 5 R's: risk assessment, readiness, recognition, and response will improve outcomes for mother and infant.
  • Examine and critically review 3 case presentations: hemorrhage, eclampsia, and venous thromboembolisim including diagnostic tests and laboratory values

  • Submission Description:
    This session will review three postpartum emergencies: hemorrhage, eclampsia, and venous thromboembolism. Assessment, recognition, and escalation of emergency measures will be highlighted. System readiness and critical event debriefs review will be included.
