C7 - Implementation of a Conservative Checklist-Based Protocol for Oxytocin Administration: Maternal and Newborn Outcomes in a Multi-Hospital System

Current guidelines regarding oxytocin administration in labor are nonspecific. A fundamental principle of quality improvement is that uniform practice patterns should lead to quality improvement. We examined the effects of implementation of a unique checklist based system of oxytocin administration in both a tertiary level facility and nationally in a hospital system with 220,000 deliveries annually. Cesarean delivery rate was reduced, labor was not prolonged and newborn outcomes appear to have been approved.
