C8 - It's a Plastic World: DEHP and Chemical Awareness in the Perinatal Setting

This presentation will provide the participant with an introduction to the precautionary principles of toxicity prevention and global environmental health as it applies in the hospital and especially the perinatal setting. The program will highlight the emerging evidence and science supporting efforts to reduce the use of DEHP, a chemical plasticizer commonly found in neonatal and perinatal practice settings. Long term and alarming outcomes of exposure will be described. Strategies for action at the hospital and local level will be shared such that participants will acquire necessary tools to address the issues in their own settings.
