Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the mental illnesses that women are at greatest risk for during the perinatal period.
  2. Critically assess and evaluate clusters of symptoms indicating most prevalent mental illnesses among women during the perinatal period.
  3. Explore the nurse's role in the provision of care to women with mental illness during the perinatal period.
Submission Description:
Mental illness affects over 44 million Americans and represents 4 of the 10 leading causes of disability. Too often mental illness goes unrecognized and untreated. The perinatal period offers a unique opportunity to screen & intervene.
