Title: H2 - Premier Hospitals Move Toward Safer Perinatal Care: Share Science and Find Solutions to Eliminate Preventable Birth Injuries

Learning Objectives:
- Describe the components of the Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative.
- Summarize the overall results of the baseline hospital assessments and one recomendation that could have application to your own labor and delivery unit.
- List three birth related harm measures and three patient safety strategies to improve these outcomes measures.
Sixteen U.S. hospitals joined the 21 month long Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative aimed to help each hospital implement processes intending to improve communication between nurses and physicians, enhance teamwork in the clinical setting, handle clinical emergencies and standardize protocols used for elective inductions, augmentation and vacuum assisted deliveries. This session will highlight the components of the Initiative, including baseline high reliability measurements and outcome data showing the impact these efforts have had in reducing birth-related injuries.
