Title: G8 - It's Not Just about Crying: How to Integrate Perinatal Mood Disorders Education Into All Areas of Mother/Baby Services

- Describe how to set up a hospital-based PMD program.
- Discuss accurate and effective PMD training of staff.
AWHONN's position statement, The Role of the Nurse in Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders says, "Health Care facilities that serve pregnant women and newborns should have routine screening protocols and educational mechanisms for staff training and client education related to postpartum disorders". This session will discuss one hospital's program that integrates accurate PMD education and screening to clients prenatally, in the hospital and postpartum, using home visits, support groups, OB visits, and coordination with behavioral care. There will also be content on strategies for educating staff on PMD's and screening tools.
