Title: TE1 - Evidence Based Practice: Translating the Science In Women's Health

Disciplines: Women’s Health (WH), Advanced Practice (AP)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss strategies for evaluating scientific evidence.
  2. Identify consensus statements on the medical management of menopausal symptoms.
  3. Discuss the controversy surrounding pharmacologic management of osteoporosis and osteopenia.
Submission Description:
There is no way all topics relevant to this topic can be even mentioned in the time at hand, so we will explore two in relative depth. After a brief discussion of how evidence is evaluated, two "hot topics" where evidence and conventional wisdom may vary will be explored. Topics chosen are the management of menopausal symptoms and the treatment of osteopenia/ osteoporosis. Information regarding recommendations for menopausal management based on consensus statements from NAMS and other professional organizations will be explored.Controversies in medications used for bone density changes will be discussed.

For 2010 Convention attendees only: You may obtain credit for TE sessions, with the exception of any TE session you attended onsite. A CNE certificate for 1.0 contact hour is awarded for listening to a recording of the educational session and completing an on-line participant feedback form. http://www.awhonn.org/awhonn/convCNE/index.jsp
