Title: GS1 - Improving Global Health for Women and Newborns, within Our Reach

Disciplines: Women’s Health (WH), Newborn (NB), Childbearing (CB)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify 3 reasons women die in childbirth in low resource countries.
  2. Identify 2 reasons for community-based misoprostol in low resources settings.
  3. List 3 components of the single visit approach for the prevention of cervical cancer.
Submission Description:
Now more than ever, women and children in low resource countries around the world need advocates and access to quality health care. This presentation will examine ways to strengthen the delivery of health care by developing strong partnerships with communities, governments and organizations to build sustainable, local health care systems. By empowering front line health care workers in over 140 countries, one non-profit organization, Jhpiego, has designed and implemented effective, low cost, hands-on solutions to such issues as postpartum hemorrhage, mother to child HIV transmission and malaria in pregnancy. Hear Dr. Leslie Mancuso, head of Jhpiego, describe how global health for women and children is well within our reach.
