  1. List the primary implications of overweight/obesity in women on fertility and complications during pregnancy.
  2. Review consequences of maternal overweight/obesity on fetal growth and development and child health.
  3. Analyze the risks of maternal overweight/obesity during labor, birth and the early postpartum and implications for clinical care.
Submission Description:
The rates of overweight and obesity among women of childbearing age continue to escalate and have reached epidemic proportions, especially for minority and disadvantaged populations. This presentation will provide a review of the reproductive, pregnancy, and childbirth consequences of this epidemic and emphasize specific clinical implications important for the care of overweight and obese women contemplating pregnancy and during the childbearing cycle.
