Nurse Jackie isn’t as rare as you think. An estimated 10-20% of nurses and nursing students in the US may have substance abuse, misuse, dependency or addiction problems. Narcotic use and diversion are growing problems in healthcare settings. This session will review signs and symptoms of impairment and diversion. Using case studies, faculty from the Drug Enforcement Administration will outline management strategies aimed at achieving positive outcomes for the impaired professional while ensuring patient safety, and avoiding civil or criminal liability.
