- Discuss the prevalence of intimate partner violence and identify health consequences women may experience.
- Examine assessment tools used to identify intimate partner violence.
- Formulate a plan to develop sustainable educational programs about intimate partner violence.
Intimate partner violence is a crime and affects 1 in 4 women. Nurses are in the ideal position to lead the way in assessing, educating and advocating for women experiencing intimate partner violence. This presentation explores assessment tools and evidence-based strategies for developing effective and sustainable programs to improve the health of women experiencing intimate partner violence. Short vignettes are included to put a face and a voice to this emotionally charged topic.
