GH1 - The Golden Minute : Helping Babies Breathe Wherever They Are Born

  1. Describe the challenges to improving global neonatal survival and meeting MDG-4 goals.
  2. Identify unique features of Helping Babies Breathe that address these challenges.
  3. Explain the role of nursing professionals in implementation of Helping Babies Breathe.
Submission Description:
Helping Babies Breathe® (HBB) is an educational program in neonatal resuscitation that prepares birth attendants in resource-limited settings to care for healthy babies and those who are not breathing at birth. HBB aims to help achieve Millennium Development Goal 4, reducing child mortality, by addressing the most important causes of neonatal death. The presentation will highlight the program's innovations in knowledge transfer, review initial outcomes from implementation field trials, and detail the crucial role of nurses in achieving global neonatal survival goals.
