GH3 - Preventing Mortality From Postpartum Hemorrhage In Low Resource Settings
Disciplines: Childbearing (CB), Advanced Practice (AP)
Learning Objectives:
- Summarize reasons why women die from PPH in developing countries.
- Differentiate prevention of PPH when there is a skilled provider at birth versus no skilled provider.
- Describe innovations and strategies other than misoprostol for preventing and treating PPH.
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of preventable mortality in developing nations where 50% of women do not have a skilled professional midwife. Preventing PPH at homebirth is possible through community based distribution of misoprostol for use at homebirth. We will explore innovative solutions to preventing mortality from PPH in the poorest countries in the world.
