  1. Differentiate “milk synthesis” from “milk production”.
  2. Discuss the physiologic process of milk synthesis.
  3. Demonstrate a basic working knowledge of available strategies for measuring milk production and milk synthesis, and their limitations.
Submission Description:
Inadequate milk supply is the most common complaint of breastfeeding women, and for good reason. The author will review the last 30 years of research on human milk production and synthesis and explore what is actually known on the subject. This presentation will also attempt to separate myth from fact and present challenges for the future.
