- Identify the evidence for effects of epidural anesthesia on breastfeeding success.
- Discuss induction of labor and evidence regarding impact on breastfeeding.
- Describe evidence regarding barriers to breastfeeding success resulting from cesarean delivery.
Many labor and delivery practices have the potential to interrupt the initiation and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding. As providers and advisors to pregnant and laboring women we have a significant role in providing evidence-based information on the effects of our practices during labor and delivery. This presentation will discuss the most common labor and delivery practices and the current evidence for their effect on breastfeeding success.
