Title: H5 - Controversies to Consensus: Screening, Diagnosing & Managing Diabetes in Pregnancy
Disciplines: Advanced Practice (AP), Women’s Health (WH)
Learning Objectives:
- Identify risk factors commonly associated with the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus.
- Describe current recommendations for screening, diagnosing, and managing diabetes in pregnancy.
- Explain the consensus statement published by the National Institutes of Health as a result of the 2013 Gestational Diabetes Consensus Development Conference.
Is there finally a consensus in the United States regarding screening, diagnosing, and managing patients with diabetes during pregnancy? What guidelines should we be following in obstetrics to provide the most evidence based care to patients? Is the debate over or will the controversy continue? This program will review diabetes in pregnancy and the consensus statement published as a result of the 2012 NIH Gestational Diabetes Consensus Development Conference held last October in Bethesda, Maryland.
