Title: H4 - Massive Obstetric Hemorrhage, Trauma Blood Replacement Strategies and Post Delivery Algorithms to Prevent the

Disciplines: Advanced Practice (AP), Childbearing (CB)

Learning Objectives:
  1. Review the challenges and tools that can be used to identify and treat maternal hemorrhage including the use of algorithms.
  2. Discuss new paradigms in blood replacement and coagulation rescue for avoiding the "deadly triad of hemorrhage."
  3. Identify stratigies that can be utilized to prepare teams for the challenge of caring for women with life threatening hemorrhage.
Submission Description:
This presentation is designed for experienced nurses, advanced practice nurses and all who are participate in or are responsible for care to women who are experience a massive intrapartum or postpartum hemorrhage. Using detailed case studies, content presented includes key assessment tools to identify maternal shock and degree of compromise. Best evidence emergency and massive transfusion strategies learned in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars are highlighted. Participants will practice calculating the type and amount of blood products required to transfuse a patient using “OB Hemorrhage Pack” algorithm and also by “individualized” order sets. Finally, advanced adjunct therapies and technology that are currently successful in other practice venues to prevent and treat the “Lethal Triad” of hemorrhage are included.
